3 Things in the News!
You aren’t going to open with the GOP drama??
I believe Frasier said it best:
I can’t tell you how much I am not following this Congress crap… but I’ll close with some thoughts. First, let’s talk fun stuff.
The Idaho knife murders!
Fun fact about Virgil! I’m far more interested in true crime than any male should be. It’s true… I am like a suburban lady in Lululemon on my 4th glass of rosé when a new 2020 or Dateline drops on Hulu. If there is a story about trashy women killing their trashy men, I am on that like frowns on a feminist.
I don’t love the sad stories. I usually won’t watch if some insane lady hurts her baby, or someone otherwise abuses a child, because that’s horrific… but give me a story about how Tammy was tired of getting hit by Dontelle so she smokes an extra pipe full of meth one night, shot him in the dick with a 12 gauge, and then hid him in the drywall of her doublewide… where she continued to live with her new husband for 13 years until she shot him too??? Make some popcorn ladies… because Nancy Grace is here in all her Georgia white lady “can I speak to the manager” haircut and she’s about to makes some wild accusations!
The latest installment in the “white people are dead, so let’s all watch” genre is the Idaho student stabbing murders… and I have to tell you, it’s perfect. Three young, cute, college girls and one unfortunate boyfriend were killed while in the rental house they lived in some college town in Idaho. Here’s the basic rundown in bullet form in case you haven’t kept up:
4 college students were stabbed to death at a house they shared in some college town in Idaho
The police were very tight lipped during their investigation and caught some flak from the media
It turns out they had a suspect relatively early on
The suspect is a super weirdo vegan crazy person who just might be a serial killer
The prosecutor has a Santa Claus beard
The whole trial is going to be televised
Yes… I am sad for the dead college students. I know… terrible. Anywho, get the popcorn because I want to see more of the crazy vegan Ka-Bar murderer who did not even come close to getting away with this.
Sam Bankman-Fried
Speaking of the vegan community continuing to raise the bar on the creepiness scale, that horrible Sam Fried is still in the news. He got let out of jail on $250M in bail secured by… we don’t know.
Look, I really don’t get why people were so infatuated with SBF. He makes my skin crawl. I think he’s creepy. He has that weird effeminate affect, and has that pale clammy skin. He’s just gross. He looks like he smells like rotten bananas.
And beyond that, I am far more cynical about him than a lot of people. I think there are a lot of folks that are just saying, “Oh, he’s a young guy. He got in way over his head and didn’t know what he was doing. He didn’t mean it. Blah blah.”
I don’t believe that for a second. I think he is a relatively intelligent horror show of a sociopath whose awful parents made him the center of their universe for his entire life and taught him that anything he did was definitionally brilliant. Why wouldn’t he think he could steal people’s money?
People looked at him like he was Picasso… Sure, he was doing things differently than those who came before him, but all genius is disruptive, right? The little secret not everyone knows though, was the Picasso really knew how to paint. He was classically trained and immensely talented… so when he decided to paint outside the lines and do something nobody had ever seen before, there was reason to take him seriously.
Horrible Sam wasn’t like that. He wasn’t ever able to charm a traditional boardroom and do legitimate business. He’s a fake… just a fraud. A philistine masquerading as avant-guard… the oldest trick in the book.
Well maybe those mental midgets out in Silicon Valley who fell for Elizabeth Holmes don’t see it… but I sure as hell do. Sam’s a scumbag… and if his parents weren’t who they are, he’d probably be a small town weed dealer with a neck tattoo, and living off his waitress baby mama.
Fine, let’s talk BRIEFLY about the chaos in the House
First a couple of quick points:
I don’t know who the Speaker is going to be
I don’t care who the Speaker is going to be
So here’s the correct way to view this situation:
This is evidence that the modern GOP is pathologically afraid of winning. They don’t want to be in power, and now that they have won the House… despite their very best efforts to lose it in a year where that was almost mathematically impossible, they don’t know what do it except to try and screw it up.
People always hit the GOP and conservatives in general for not really having an agenda. I had a more liberal friend say that to me yesterday. I don’t actually think that’s true. Conservatives do have an agenda… to conserve. They want to limit the size and scope of government. They want more laissez-faire economic policy. They want to preserve cultural norms.
That can easily be spun as “not having an agenda”, but that’s just not true. Liberals want to change things, conservatives don’t. That is the Barry Goldwater / Bill Buckley version of conservatism… and when done correctly we get Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush. When done incorrectly we get George W. Bush and the neocons… which eventually lead to moron radicals like Matt Gaetz and that idiot Boebert woman… but I digress.
Anyway, since 2008 and the election of Barack Obama, the GOP has embraced the idea that they are an opposition party instead of a party in power. McCain couldn’t win, Romney could have but refused, and Trump was a disaster. In the Congress the GOP has settled happily in their position as the minority party. They get to raise money and go on Fox News and crow about Adam Schiff and Nancy Pelosi… and in the end, they don’t actually have to do anything about them.
Now they are in charge. Certain things are expected of them. They are supposed to govern and impede the Biden agenda and run some investigations that many Americans would like to see happen over Covid and the DOJ and other excesses of the Federal Bureaucracy. But the right wing contingent of the GOP simply doesn’t want that. They are no longer conservatives… They are liberals who want change. They don’t have reverence for our system. Many aren’t supportive of our Constitution. They are right wing versions of the squad.
So that’s what we are seeing… Matt Gaetz and that idiot Boebert woman and their little tribe of mental midgets are liberals. It doesn’t even dawn on them that they are the reason the GOP didn’t make the gains it should have in the midterms. They have all the excesses of Trump and none of the savvy.
So in the end… I don’t care. Make Hakeem Jeffries speaker for all I care. Let them look at the Republican Party after playing that game and see how it goes. That idiot Boebert woman won by like 100 votes in a Trump +7 district. It’s not like they are popular. Do your worst boys… but you aren’t going to hold anyone hostage. Enjoy your time in the sun and then make sure to head back to whatever bang your sister district you’re from, because I’m flat done with all of you.
Happy Friday all! —Virgil
